About Me

My name is Rachael Ford and I am a surface pattern designer from sunny Southport based in Leeds. I am about to begin the third year of my degree Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Leeds College Of Art. This blog is primarily a showcase of my work inside and out of uni but also to share a few of my inspirations and bits I like. I am a colour addict, I enjoy creating digital design, texture, and mixed meida prints using both fabric and paper. London continued

I just love the colour in some of these images-great inspiration for a new colour palette.

London

I recently visited London for some inspiration for my next project. I want to create a collection based on Islamic design, tiles, fashion and architecture.  Here are a few snaps from my trip!

Nickisha Atkinson

Whilst at New Designers on Saturday I found this designer Nickisha Atkinson, a textile designer specialising in screen print and digital prints. I love her use of colour, and the boldness of her designs, I also like her use of the drawn line and painterly marks.

Some wrap, stationary and gift designs from one of my latest projects, I hope you like my colour palette as much as I do...

Work from a competiton we did with Tigerprint Studios back in February.

I love to draw

Flowers is definitely one of my favourite things to draw!

Indigo

I thought I would share with you some of the work I have been creating so far this year. Here is a sample of my fashion fabrics I sent to Indigo in February of this year. They were high fashion prints influeced by floral motifs and geometric shapes. I printed them digitally onto silk twill-Hope you like them!

New Designers

Yesterday I had a little day trip down to London to visit New Designers to give me an insight into what I am aiming for for next year. I have to say I was very impressed. So much talent-well done Leeds college of art girls your stand was truly amazing!

I have just completed a weeks placement at Tigerprint Studio in Bradford, I had a fabulous time creating my own alphabet and designs for wrap and bags, and they have asked me back for another week yipee!!
I am approaching the start of my third year so have decided it's about time I start a new blog to document all my inspirations, visits, drawings, processes and designs and share it with all you lovely people.
